Allissa co-produces VR series for Oculus

I co-executive produced my first docuseries, y’all! I am really proud of this project because it totally pushed me out of my comfort zone. It was a cathartic endeavor that put me in communion with a team of great creatives.

The series is called, “IN PROTEST: Grassroots Stories from the Frontlines.” When Alton Glass and Adam Davis-McGee invited me to join them on this journey, the national protests against George Floyd’s murder were nearly a month strong—and showed no signs of slowing down.

I appeared on a local news program here in LA, in late June, to talk about how we should be thinking about broadcasting the images of protest and Black Death. I got an email from the team a day later on LinkedIn. We arranged a Zoom, I listened to their plan, and I was in. They were energetic, passionate about Black liberation, and very innovative in their approach to protest journalism.

Six months later, we had visited four cities: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Washington, DC, Los Angeles and Atlanta. IN PROTEST is the story of the activists who kept fighting for justice when the news helicopters left town. It’s a story of who continues to mourn and cry out and plot and strategize—even while they are hurting.

I am proud to have worked with GRX Immersive Labs on this important archive of the Summer of 2020. GRX and I will appear on the Facebook Reality Labs/Oculus stage to discuss how we created the groundbreaking film in virtual reality on Feb. 23. Join us!
